Fundraising in memory of Callum Carruthers
Alison and Stephen Carruthers could not believe what was happening to them when their baby son Callum
was diagnosed with Mitochondria Disease, a genetic condition that attacks every cell in your body, sadly Callum could not
fight this disease and he lost his fight for life in 2004. You can read Callum's story in Everyone's Gift.
Since that time the Carruthers’ family have raised £18,377.25* for Andrea's
Gift.
The first event involved Stephen plus family and friends competing and succeeding in trekking the
National 3 Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours.
Cash has followed through various different methods including dress down days, raffles, collections
and Stephen nominating Andrea's Gift as charity of the year for a group of fundraisers working with him at HBoS.
The HBoS team plan to rasie £20,000 to fund support activities in 2008. They have organised
a car boot sale, golf day, taken part in bike rides and Stephen also arranged for the HBoS team to do a home makeover for an Andrea's Gift supporter. Follow the link to find out more on the team's activities.
*The money raised via HBoS has not yet been added to the total above.
A friend of Alison's, Wendy Jones Blackett makes beautiful greeting cards
and has created two special “new baby boy” cards in Callum’s memory, 10p of which from each sale goes to
Andreas Gift.
The sale of Wendy's cards publicises Callum and Andrea's Gift across the UK and Europe as there is a message on the reverse of each
card dedicating it to Callum's memory and informing the buyer of the charity and financial contribution.
The family also takes part in organised Andrea's Gift events, Stephen supports the football and
golf days and Alison, her mum and Callum's older brother Scott walked 10k in the Big Walk.
