Margaret Clemence and
her family and friends in Middleton St George, Darlington have worked tirelessly for Andrea’s Gift since Margaret’s
husband Andrew died of a brain tumour in 2005.
Margaret, her good friend Chrissy
Hillam together with family and friends have pulled out all the stops and have raised £5,271.50 with
more funds to follow as they collect sponsorship monies for Neil Cousins, Dave Grayson and John Bell when they completed the
Wetherby to Scarborough Big Bike ride in May in a super fast time!
Margaret works in a residential
complex in Middleton St George and she and some of the residents, family and friends had a wonderful open house and held a
raffle, tombola, cake stall, toy sale etc. and raised the fantastic sum of £1,1,21!
One of Andrew’s
close friends, Tom Russell organised a mainly off-road circular cycle route in the Cairngorms with his friends Paul Murphy,
Neill Lockett, Colin Barker, Stuart Muckle, Les Pownall. The guys all work for
Darlington Borough Council and managed to complete the tough, 130 mile, route in June in incredibly wet and dangerous
conditions.
Tom wrote this account of the event:
"The weather was terrible, heavy rain and headwind on each of the four days we were riding. The off
road sections were very dangerous; the tracks were very steep, wet and slippery. Small streams we expected to cross had turned
into raging torrents, we had no option other than to abandon the off road and continue on the road, which inevitably
meant more mileage.
Never
mind, we did get a great deal of satisfaction in completing the ride in what were appalling conditions.”
Thank you so much for your wonderful efforts guys!
The team are raising funds for Andrea's Gift, in memory of a wonderful friend,
Andrew Clemence.
