"I recently became aware of Andrea's Gift and the work that the team does when a friend of mine,
who had battled with a brain tumour for four years sadly died, aged just 26.
The charity provides funds for vital research into new treatments for
the disease and provides a network of patient and carer support that is vital when a family is facing a terribly difficult
time, post diagnosis.
I know that the wonderful emotional and
financial help given by everyone at Andrea's Gift gave my close friend and her 2 year old daughter support when facing
the tragic loss of a young husband and daddy.
I hope that 2008 will see the opening of the brain tumour research lab in Leeds and that it will attract
some of the top names in science who will work together to develop novel treatment regimes that, in time, may lead to a more
positive prognosis for patients.
In the meantime, we all need to do as much
as possible to raise the profile of the disease in the media so that patients may finally receive the financial investment
both into research and patient support they so desperately deserve.
Let
us work together to improve the outcome for patients in the future.
